The ultimate objective of our project is to understand the effect of jellyfish blooms<\/em><\/strong>, specifically in terms of organic matter<\/strong> <\/em>(OM) released as jellyfish populations decay, on the natural microbial community<\/em><\/strong> and thus, on marine ecosystem functioning<\/em><\/strong> and biogeochemical cycles in the ocean<\/em><\/strong>. In particularly, we will focus on the invasive bloom-forming ctenophore <\/em><\/strong>as perturbation <\/em><\/strong>and the potential new, sporadically available, source of dissolved organic matter <\/em><\/strong>(DOM)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>for the natural bacterial community<\/em><\/strong> of the invaded coastal marine ecosystem.<\/em><\/strong> We will apply an integrated interdisciplinary approach<\/em><\/strong> to tackle this problem \u2013 from the molecular to the ecosystem scale<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
