JELLY-BIOME will be the <em><strong>first comprehensive jellyfish microbiome study<\/strong><\/em> to catalog all components \u2013fungi, bacteria, viruses \u2013 and cover different degrees of microbiome specialization &#8211; from host- species, -body compartment-, -health status and stage of bloom development. In this way, we will identify j<strong><em>ellyfish \u2018core\u2019 vs. \u2018variable\u2019 microbiomes<\/em><\/strong> and distinguish <em><strong>major microbial traits and variables of the jellyfish meta-organism<\/strong><\/em>. We will couple our <strong><em>in-situ survey<\/em> <\/strong>with <em><strong>manipulation experiments in the laboratory<\/strong><\/em>. Within JELLY-BIOME we will elucidate the host-microbiome interactions behind the boom-and-bust population dynamics at a molecular level in unprecedented details by embracing state-of-the-art <em><strong>metagenomics<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>(meta)transcriptomics<\/strong><\/em> and <strong><em>(meta)proteomics<\/em><\/strong> approaches, coupled with latest <strong><em>molecular biology<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>biochemistry tools<\/em><\/strong> to characterize individual host and <strong><em>microbial key enzymes and proteins involved in the host\u2019s decay and death<\/em><\/strong>. The data generated in this study will be fed into our newly established <strong><em>jellyfish-microbiome database<\/em><\/strong> and curated to meet <strong><em>machine learning<\/em><\/strong> requirements.
