High-stem meadow orchards are true treasure troves of life. At first glance, they may seem like peaceful places where fruit ripens among tall fruit trees and colourful meadows sway gently in the breeze.
Tall trunks, magnificent crowns, dark tree hollows and colourful meadows stretching into the beech forest offer endless opportunities for experiencing, learning about and exploring nature.
Birds nest in the treetops, insect-eating species climb along the trunks, various inhabitants of the orchard find shelter in tree hollows, pollinators buzz among the blossoms, while the meadow is home to a multitude of small animals and plants. The colourful meadow continues into the forest. The interplay of the orchard, meadow and forest creates diverse rhythms of life and opens up countless opportunities for observing and exploring nature.
A Day in the Orchard is therefore an invitation to experience nature in a different way – to slow down, observe, listen and explore. With the guidance of experts, children and young people will discover different fruit tree species and varieties, butterflies, birds, meadow plants, fungi and forest species. They will explore their adaptations and discover how different organisms are interconnected. Through engaging activities, hands-on experiments and direct observation, they will discover that behind the familiar appearance of an orchard lies an incredibly diverse and vibrant world.
