Beneath the surface of Pohorje’s forests lies a diverse and often unseen kingdom of fungi. Their diversity ranges from familiar mushrooms to microscopic structures hidden from the human eye. As important connectors within forest ecosystems, fungi decompose organic matter and form close symbiotic relationships with trees that are essential for the functioning and resilience of forest communities. In doing so, they play a vital role in natural cycles, forest regeneration and the conservation of biodiversity.
