Careful observation in nature reveals footprints, droppings, feeding marks, scratches or rubs, hair, shed skins and feathers, paths, dens, and resting sites. These traces allow us to identify the species, estimate age and size, determine the timing and manner of movement, and gain insights into behaviour, diet, and travel routes.
