The birds of Pohorje, through their life rhythms and seasonal behaviours, reflect the changing nature of the seasons. The birds of Pohorje reflect the changing rhythms of nature throughout the seasons. Their breeding, feeding, vocalisation, migration and wintering patterns are closely linked to natural processes and reveal the richness and diversity of Pohorje’s habitats, from forests and peat bogs to grasslands and traditional cultural landscapes. Characteristic Natura 2000 species of the Pohorje area, such as the Western Capercaillie, Black Grouse, Eurasian Pygmy Owl, Boreal Owl, Three-toed Woodpecker and Eurasian Woodcock, are important indicators of environmental quality and habitat conservation, highlighting the importance of research and protection of natural heritage and biodiversity.
