The aim of the proposed research project is to evaluate the connection between apoplastic reactive oxigen species (ROS), chloroplastic ROS, salicylic acid (SA) and stromule formation and its role in hypersensitive response (HR)-conferred resistance.
Within this project we will combine synthetic biology, in planta functional studies and transcriptomics analyses performed at spatial resolution, using state-of-the-art technologies, to explore the intertwined roles of apoROS, chlROS, SA and stromules in HR-conferred resistance in potato. Up till now, the role of organelle specific ROS and SA in HR-conferred resistance has only been studied by altering the level of a single component. The originality of our approach lies in a more complex set-up where the combinatorial effect of multiple components will be studied to decipher interactions between them.
